Welcome to my blog, “Sopranos’ Journeys”, where I interview five soprano colleagues on their individual singing careers. Through these interviews, we discuss their musical beginnings, college experiences, auditions, professional engagements, and their goals for the future. The inspiration for this series was to provide encouragement and real-life insight on what it’s like and what it takes to pursue classical music professionally. Often in academia, the “one size fits all” approach is preached as the only career path, so interviewing these sopranos gives others like you an opportunity to learn more about different performance avenues that are available. This series is for all who are new to a singing career, deciding on college decisions, a seasoned pro, or someone who just wants to be encouraged and inspired in their own journey. I definitely learned so much about these singers and was compelled to change my own approach in regards to rejections, being reminded of how nuanced the performance world is, and how varied the definition of success can be. These interviews gave me further permission step outside the box, and find opportunities and paths that make sense for me.
